counseling services
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
I provide Individual counseling to address depression, anxiety, PTSD, panic disorder, stress and anger management, and interpersonal problems. I approach these from a systemic, Family Systems framework that looks at individual issues in an interpersonal context. I have training in Cognitive Behavior Therapies. In 1983 I completed the Fellowship Practicum at the Institute for Rational Emotive Therapy in New York, N.Y., which included live supervision with Albert Ellis Ph.D.
FAMILY COUNSELING
Families face challenges at every stage of the Family Life Cycle. I am a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (#16718). Family Therapists address problems in the context of growth and development and emphasize family strengths in addressing the inevitable stresses associated with life’s transitions. Small children are usually seen with their care providers.
COUPLES COUNSELING
My approach to couples counseling is informed by my training at the Southwest Family Institute in Dallas, Texas where I completed a Doctoral Internship in 1992. I had live supervision there with W.Robert Beavers M.D
Couples who marry for love begin their relationship feeling that they are on the same side, but come to counseling feeling adversarial. Couples work most often involves trying to restore that sense of partnership.
LPC SUPERVISION
I am licensed in Alabama as a Supervising Counselor (#1192). I provide clinical supervision to ALCs under ABEC guidelines.
